So A Court of Frost and Starlight (ACOFAS) came out last week, I finished it in a day and I’m still not sure how I’m feeling. ACOFAS is a novella for the A Court of Thorns and Roses series. The first book, A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) is a retelling of the classic Beauty and the Beast story. The series follows a young huntress named Feyre who is out hunting to feed her family when she comes across a wolf, but unknown to her it wasn’t just any wolf.
Honestly, I’m still trying to wrap my head around this novella, it’s only 230 pages long but it’s giving me a large range of thoughts. So essentially, this novella is designed to help set up for the next few books, since we’re following different characters and a new plot. As this is a novella we didn’t really have an actual plot, there was no true beginning, middle, and end, it was just like a nice story. It was nice to see our characters relatively happy after the events of the last book and I did enjoy it. I do love these characters, but I just don’t know if this novella was necessary?
The thing is this book kind of seemed like a waste of time. All of the crucial aspects that probably could have been in the next book. Since I haven’t read the next book yet (I wish) I don’t really know what’s important and what isn’t, but this novella just didn’t seem significant. I think I had higher expectations for this novella then just a nice story. While we covered characters, I don’t think we really got any glimpse into the future plot and honestly, I would rather we have the next book than a novella that didn’t really give us anything. To end this review I have to do a little rant, it’s time to talk about
To end this review I have to do a little rant, it’s time to talk about those scenes. The Throne of Glass series started off very PG and I assume Sarah was probably very limited in what she could write. But now she’s not and well you could say she’s gone a little crazy with the sex scenes. I don’t particularly care for them, they’re there, I skim over them, I suppose they’re well written but it’s just not my thing. I personally don’t think they should be in Empire of Storms, but that’s a discussion for later, but I know other people do enjoy them. But when you have a 230 page novella, you don’t make a quarter of the book about sex. I finished the book a week ago and have already forgotten about half of it but It seemed like a lot of sex scenes for something so small. It’s just a tad annoying when they’re a heap of over things I would rather see then these scenes. It also made Rhysands P.O.V’s boring and disappointing since all he suddenly seems to think about is sex.
As I said above, I’ve already forgotten half of the story, so I apologies if I got anything wrong. But overall I did enjoy this novella (considering I actually hate novellas), and I’m super excited to see where this series is headed and it’s still my favourite series of all time.
